Privacy Policy

The short version: the data file you upload is processed entirely in your browser and is never sent to our servers. The only information we ever receive is what you choose to type into the in-app feedback form.

SimplePub is operated by Laurenz Thiele, an individual based in Belgium.

What we don't collect

SimplePub has no account system, no sign-up, and no login, we have no way to identify you, and nothing in the app asks you to. We don't use cookies, advertising scripts, or any third-party tracking scripts.

Anonymous usage and performance statistics

We use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, our hosting provider's measurement tools, to count page views and measure how fast the site loads. They collect anonymous, aggregated data (such as the page visited, referrer, country, browser, device type and page-load timings). They don't use cookies, don't identify you, and don't track you across other websites. The files you work with are never part of this data.

Your data file

When you upload a CSV, Excel, TSV, JSON, or Parquet file, it is parsed and rendered entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. It is never uploaded, transmitted, or copied to any server we operate. If you close the tab without exporting, nothing of it persists anywhere, including on our end, since we never had a copy.

Feedback and issue reports

If you use the "Send feedback" or "Report an issue" option, we receive and store:

the text you type into the feedback box;
for issue reports only, a snapshot of your current chart type and the settings you've configured (e.g. which columns are mapped to which axes, color/style choices), this never includes the contents of your uploaded file, only the configuration, so we can understand what you were seeing.

We do not collect your name, email address, or any other identifier alongside a submission unless you choose to include one in the text itself (for example, if you want us to be able to reply). This data is stored in a managed Postgres database (hosted by Neon) solely so we can read and act on your report.

To prevent spam, each submission is checked against a short-term rate limit keyed to a salted, one-way hash of your IP address — not the IP address itself, which is never stored. This hash can't be reversed back into an IP, exists only to catch automated abuse, and isn't linked to your feedback text or settings snapshot in any way.

Data retention and deletion

Because feedback submissions aren't linked to any account or identifier, we have no reliable way to look up a specific submission on request. If you included identifying details in your message (like an email address) and want that entry removed, contact us at the address below and we'll do our best to locate and delete it.

Third parties

Two services are involved in running SimplePub: our hosting provider, which serves the site's files and runs the small feedback-submission endpoint, and Neon, which hosts the database that stores feedback text and settings snapshots. Neither receives your uploaded data file, which never leaves your browser in the first place.

Children's privacy

SimplePub is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, beyond what's described above.

Changes to this policy

If how SimplePub handles data changes, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change accordingly.
